Current Project:
Arboretum Restoration
Established in 1912, Wind River Arboretum is among the oldest in the Pacific Northwest. For many years, seeing the arboretum was a highlight of visiting Wind River. However, with little maintenance over the last several decades, young trees and brush have filled in, obscuring visibility and even crowding out the original planted trees. We are in the process of clearing the brush so the original planting is visible and the old trees are protected. Volunteer crews from the Washington Trails Association have been working to restore the trails to their original width. As these jobs are completed, we will inventory and retag these historic trees, and install new interpretive signage. Soon, a visit to the Arboretum will be part of the Wind River experience once again!
